Pasta Brava – Week 3
I’ve been “promoted” from a trainee/apprentice to commis cook after Week 1. Benny’s the chef de partie in charge of the pasta station and I report directly to him now. As unglamorous and tough as the work may be, I had a lot of fun. I’m like the baby sister of everyone who at the restaurant there cuz I’m the youngest.
BUT…
I burnt 2 of my fingers during work today.
Should have been more careful really. I was cooking the pasta (not the actual dish, mind) and took 2 small trays to contain them but Benny told me to get the bigger ones. So off I went, not realising that one side of the metal trays have been in contact with the super-heated body of the boiler. As I slid the trays back under the counter, my fingers gripped the heated side and it was (in my head), “FUCK, OW OW OW!”
The pain was searing and you can actually feel it growing in intensity. Luckily it wasn’t my entire hand. The middle finger got it worse than the index (only abit of the skin got semi-cooked). The heat went all the way into the flesh for the middle. More skin’s definitely semi-cooked here cuz it’s shiny and hard plus the fingerprint’s been burnt off.
I hope I won’t see any blisters tomorrow.
Imagine if the doctor asks how you’re feeling, all you have to do is flick the middle finger and ask him,
“So sir, how do you think I’m feeling?”
Hahahaha.
